Oliver Stenberg

Art director, fashion designer and set designer Oliver Stenberg walks a fine line (one that we all wish to walk on) found somewhere between avant garde and minimalism. Playing with color and whimsy, each campaign he works on is saturated with unique elements exclusive to the ideas that he draws directly from his imagination for that project.

Brands seeking his artistic edge are those willing to stand out and take a simple ad campaign and turn it into an art exhibit by showcasing their products in a fresh way. From his studies starting in London at the Instituto Marangoni, Stenberg then went on to work with various magazines and British designers making his mark on an intimidating*** industry.

Stenberg has a way of making products come to life and tell a story of their own. By sticking to his design esthetic despite advertising trends he has proven to be a voice that brands can trust to make a statement against the grain.

Guy Lamaree

A jack of all trades Guy Lamaree has excelled in multiple art fields including writing, directing, music, painting and more, he has a distinct view on the world and technology for that matter that is refreshing and beautiful.

His 30 year work timeline is all focused around the idea of the “Erosion of Cultures” that nothing stays the same, cultures emerge, change and become obsolete then change into a new one. His series of carved book landscapes entitled Biblios and The Great Wall, are incredible and hard to believe all hand carved from old books, the color palette almost romantic and whimsical of itself you want to reach out and touch it.

As the need for physical books dies so does the hope to keep some sort of primitive grasp on our evolving technological world. Lamaree reflects this thought by taking these once very useful encyclopedias and turning them into something we can never lose to technology, Mother Earth; the simplicity of nature.

This has influenced his creative mind, going to school he studied illustration but grew bored of it and explored other expressions of his creativity.

Francesca Burns

A woman not afraid of mixing texture, pattern and menswear is the kind of woman you should take advice from. Francesca Burns is a fashion stylist from the UK who has now had her work featured in Vouge magazine among others. Her out of the box thinking of color combinations topped usually with a dramatic textured coat is the cherry on top of an outfit.

A 70’s vibe mixed with 90’s grunge makes for a interesting style that makes you wonder if you could pull it off yourself. Burns a former law student followed her dreams into fashion and has proven she can bring fresh perspective to not only quirky London streetstyle but the art world as well. Her work plays with menswear and shapes that give off an attitude of power that we crave in women’s fashion today. Being a stylist and taking other peoples works of art and combining them to have an ending result that is down to earth but glamorous must be close to impossible and Francesca pulls it off.

Studio Nomad

There is something about minimalism that speaks so much louder than designs that are overdone and extravagant looking to the eye, Studio Nomad knows the same to be true. Their “3 Legs” project of side tables pop with a modern 80’s throwback feel, a fresh take on geometric furniture with a soft color palate take them to a new level of must have.

Based in Budapest Hungary the design team also creates some projects that caught our eye, one in particular called the Mirage pavilion was done for the Sziget Festival in Budapest. Over 1200 reflective plastic sheets were hung up in the forest that give the illusion you might be stepping into a worm hole. Inspiration for this project stemmed from the camouflage used on WWII battle ships, the result makes for a playful sci-fi illusion.

Random International

The work done at Random International is known for being “experimental” which is a word that can be taken two ways when describing a art studio. But isnt a stuio like this what the art world should be celebrating? Somebody who wants to push beyond the lines of what contemporary art should be or its expectations of it. Thats exactly what art should do, break the idea of what you thought was art, get the gears of the mind turning.

Based in London the studio uses science to consider the man and machine relationship with the viewer as an active participant, for example the newest craze to hit L.A. “The Rain Room” has people talking. There is a field of falling water that pauses whenever a human body is present, the viewer interaction invites vistor’s to see the roles that technology can play and encourages people to set their own performance which makes it a very intimate experience. By offering the seemingly impossible dream we have all had of being able to walk through the rain without the soaking wet outcome is just magical in itself.

Providing a sensory experience and being an active participant in an art piece is not something you would expect from going to view art but all the work at Random International continues to do just that which makes it stand out among all other art studios.

It is a double whammy when an artist not only has a beautiful talent to share with the world but also a point of view to slap across your face to make you THINK. It is artists like Alison Mortisugu that ignite a fresh curiosity in people that is necessary in todays world.

Log-Paintings-by-Alison-Moritsugu-9Moritsugu_Log_Series_3

Being born and raised in Hawaii seems to have had an impact on Alison’s take on the world and our mother earth. Her latest collection of hand painted landscapes on bare wood with the bark still intact is stunning and sends a message straight to your heart.

Untitled-1Moritsugu_Trophy_1998

Moritsugu_Wilderness_1998Taking on 18th and 19th century art that depicts the land as bountiful and full of hope, she uses irony by painting this beautiful dream on the very destruction itself of a beautiful tree that once was. The trees that she used for the piece were already fallen and going to be turned to mush, the collection is like nothing seen before and is visually stimulating.
